Welcome Message from the
AAOT President

Dear Friends and Colleagues, sponsors and exhibitors,

It is my greatest pleasure and honor to be able to invite you to the 20th Scientific Meeting of the Asian Academy of Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders (AAOT) that will be hosted by Korea this time as a virtual conference.

Due to the ongoing concerns related to COVID-19, the organizing committee has decided to transition all sessions to virtual events so those who are interested will be able to safely and comfortably experience all this meeting has to offer. As always our primary goal is to provide up-to-date knowledge on orofacial pain and temporomandibular disorders in the most efficient way to all interested participants while protecting their health and well-being.

The organizing committee had planned to hold an in-person meeting at a nice venue near the West Sea of Korea last year that would leave fond memories in all those who attended. I feel very sorry that we will not be able to meet each other in Korea.

Even though we will not be able to meet you in this country all members of the organizing committee have been working hard to make this meeting a magnificent experience for all attendants. The main theme of this year’s meeting is “New Insight into Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders” and excellent speakers including Dr. Ohrbach as the keynote speaker and many other renown scholars from sister academies of many Asian countries are preparing stimulating lectures that will truly benefit the listener.

It has been more than 30 years since AAOT was founded by the pioneers of our field in Asia. The collective knowledge and experience that has been accumulated has always been first shard through our AAOT meetings and I believe this meeting will also be one of those meaningful moments.

I hope you enjoy the first online AAOT scientific meeting and wish to see you all face to face in the near future.

Thank you.

Asian Academy of Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders

Welcome Message from the
AAOT 2021 Organizing Committee Chairman

Dear colleagues and friends,

On behalf of the organizing committee, I introduce the scientific program of the 2021 Scientific Meeting of the Asian Academy of Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders (AAOT) with my greatest pleasure.

We have organized the program into a number of interrelated plenary sessions, keynote presentations, and country representative sessions. The sessions cover a wide range of topics related to orofacial pain and dental sleep medicine with its most recent advances under the theme, “New Insight into Orofacial Pain & Temporomandibular Disorders”.

The highlight of the conference will be the keynote addresses to be given by Dr. Richard Ohrbach from the School of Dental Medicine, University at Buffalo (USA), who will be speaking on the current status of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) diagnosis and chronic painful TMD. Also do not miss the online poster presentations that is for young clinicians as they are the future of our academy.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our distinguished speakers for taking the time to share with us their views, experience, and expertise in the area of orofacial pain and TMD.

The organizing committee have put in an incredible amount of time and effort into planning and bringing together an excellent program for which you are about to participate that is impressive with speakers from 7 different countries of Asia and the States. I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to the members of the organizing committee who have been literally preparing for this meeting for 2 years. This meeting was first planned as an off-line experience and all preparations were finished when the COVID-19 pandemic started to spread at a frightening speed and everyone over the world had to get adjusted to the new normal. We too had to make tough decisions and eventually decided to transition the 2021 AAOT meeting into a full virtual experience. The health and safety of our participants have always been our first priority and I believe that this first online AAOT meeting has very much to offer to those in our field who will be able to experience the latest knowledge in the area of orofacial pain and dental sleep medicine from the comfort of your house.

I also want to thank all of the vendors who are supporting the conference this year by participating with sponsorship opportunities, without their support this conference would not be possible.

Over the years, the mission of the academy has been to broaden the understanding in orofacial pain and TMD among Asian countries and all members have devoted their efforts to successfully achieve this goal. I believe this virtual conference will be another corner stone in the path to further advancements in the field of orofacial pain and TMD in Asia.

I warmly welcome all of you to the 2021 Scientific Meeting of AAOT and hope that you will be able to enjoy all this conference has to offer.

I hope to see you soon in-person in the near future.
Thank you.
